Georgian Silver Vinaigrette

Georgian Silver Vinaigrette
Description: Popular during the Georgian & Victorian eras, antique vinaigrettes are small hinged boxes with an interior grill designed to house a scented cloth or sponge.

This unusual Georgian solid silver vinaigrette with gilded interior grill was made by the master silversmith John Shaw and assayed in Birmingham for 1817. Good clear hallmarks on the inside of the gilded lid and base. Cartouche on the lid has the initials CW. Engine turning to the edges, top and bottom. The ornate and intricate gilded grill with the hinge at the side works well.

In good antique condition with just some mild rubbing but no dents or repairs to the silver.
